Community
Council seeks new directors, members
The Key Peninsula Community Council, created with the
mission to maintain and improve the quality of life on the
Key Peninsula, has set various work goals through a
strategy plan, and is looking to become involved in
specific projects.
In September, seven of the 14 director positions will
be up for election, and the council invites interested
residents to become involved by running for the board or
participating in the election and the meetings.
Persons interested in running for a council position
must return their Candidate Registration Form to the KPC
office at 8903 Key Peninsula Highway, Lakebay, WA 98349 no
later than 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 17. In order to be
eligible, candidates must reside or own property in the
area in which they choose to run and may only run in one
area (see map). The Key Peninsula News will publish the
candidates’ names and bios in the September edition.
All registered members will be mailed a ballot two
weeks prior to the election. Ballots may be returned by
mail or deposited in one of the polling sites (locations
to be announced). Those persons who have already
registered do not need to register again. Registration for
new members will be available at various Key Peninsula
events this summer, the polling locations, or by calling
the KPC office at 884-0557. Registration is free and open
to all persons 18 years or older who reside or own
property on the Key Peninsula.
The committees, which meet regularly, include community
planning, human services, safety, communications, finance,
and executive. The KPC Board of Directors meets on the
second Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the KPMS
Library. The meetings are open to the public.
Anyone interested in running for a council position,
registering to vote, or learning more should call the KPC
office at 884-0557. The voter registration is not
connected with the Pierce County voter registration and
must be completed in order to participate in the KPC
elections. Those who register to vote become KPC members.
