Crocheted Christmas Tree

Items needed:  Crochet hook, size H, Styrofoam cone, 14”, regular 3-ply yarn, green, white if you want to “frost” the tree.

 FOUNDATION:  Starting at the tip with green, ch 5. Join with sl st to form ring.

1st rnd:   Ch 3, work 5 dc in ring; sl st in top of ch 3.

2nd rnd:  Ch 3, work 2 dc in next dc, (dc in next dc, 2 dc in next dc) twice; sl st in ch 3.

3rd rnd:  (lp rnd) *Ch 6, sc in next 3 dc. Repeat from * around, ending ch 6; sc in last 2 dc;

              sl st in sl st at base of 1st lp (3 lps)

4th rnd:  Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st; * holding lp forward, skip next ch 6 lp, dc in next

              2 sc, 2 dc in next sc, repeat from * ending dc in last two sc, sl st in ch 3.

5th rnd:  Repeat 3rd rnd (4 lps).

6th rnd:  Ch 3, *skip next ch 6 lp, dc in next 3 sc. Repeat from *, ending dc in last 2 sc; sl

              st in ch 3.

7th rnd:  Repeat 3rd rnd (4 lps).

8th rnd:  Repeat 4th rnd.

9th rnd:  *Ch 6, sc in next 4 dc, repeat from *, ending sc in last 3 dc, sl st in sl st (4 lps).

10th rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, * skip next ch 6 lp, dc in next 3 sc, 2 dc in next

              sc, 2 dc in next sc. Repeat from *, ending dc in last 3 sc; sl st in ch 3.

11th rnd: Repeat 9th rnd (5 lps).

12th rnd: Ch 3, * skip next ch 6 lp, dc in next 4 sc. Repeat from *, ending dc in last 3 sc;

              sl st in ch 3.

13th rnd: Repeat 9th rnd (5 lps).

14th rnd: Repeat 10th rnd.

15th rnd: *Ch 6, sc in next 5 dc. Repeat from *, ending sc in last 4 dc; sl st in sl st (5 lps).

16th rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, * skip next ch 6 * lp, dc in next 4 sc, 2 dc in next

              sc. Repeat from *, ending dc in last 4 dc; sl st in ch 3.

17th rnd: Repeat 15th rnd (6 lps).

18th rnd: Ch 3, * skip next ch 6 lp, dc in next 5 sc. Repeat from *, ending dc in last 4 sc;

              sl st in ch 3.

19th rnd: * Ch 6, sc in next 4 sc. Repeat from *, ending sc in last 5 sc; sl st in sl st (7 lps).

20th rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, * skip next ch 6 lp, dc in next 3 sc, 2 dc in next

              sc. Repeat from *, ending dc in last 5 sc; sl st in ch 3.

21st rnd: * Ch 6, sc in next 6 dc, repeat from * around; sl st in sl st (6 lps).

22nd rnd: Ch 3, * skip next ch 6 lp, dc in next 5 sc, 2 dc in next sc. Repeat from *, ending

              dc in last 6 sc; sl st in ch 3.

23rd rnd: * Ch 6, sc in next 6 dc. Repeat from *, ending sc in last 5 sc, sl st in sl st (7 lps).

24th rnd: Ch 3, * skip next ch 6 lp, dc in next 6 sc. Repeat from *, ending dc in last 5 sc;

              sl st in ch 3.

25th rnd: Repeat 23rd rnd.

26th rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, * skip next ch 6 lp, dc in next sc, 2 dc in next sc.

              Repeat from *, ending dc in last 5 sc; sl st in ch 3.

27th rnd: * Ch 6, sc in next 7 dc. Repeat fro m*, ending sc in last 6 dc; sl st in sl st (7 lps).

28th rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, * skip next ch 6 lp, dc in next 6 sc, 2 dc in next

              sc. Repeat from *, ending dc in last 6 dc; sl st in ch 3.

29th rnd: Ch 6, sc in next 7 dc. Repeat from *, ending sc in last 6 dc; sl st in sl st (8 lps).

30th rnd: Ch 3, * skip next ch 6 lp, dc in next 7 sc. Repeat from *, ending dc in last 6 sc;

               sl st in ch 3.

31st rnd: Repeat 29th rnd.

32nd rnd: Ch 3, dc in same place as sl st, * skip next ch 6 lp, dc in next 6 sc, 2 dc in next

               sc. Repeat from *, ending dc in last 6 sc, sl st in ch 3.  Break off.

BRANCHES

1st rnd:   Starting with 1st lp of 1st lp rnd, with green, work as follows in each lp: sc in lp,

               *ch 3, sc in 3rd ch from hook (p made), sc in same lp. Repeat from * twice more.

               Repeat in each lp around.

2nd rnd:   Repeat 1st rnd in each lp of next lp rnd.

3rd rnd:   * hdc in next lp, (make p, hdc in same lp) 4 times. Repeat from * around.

4th rnd:   Repeat 3rd rnd.

5th rnd:   # Dc in next lp, (make p, dc in same lp) 5 times. Repeat from * around.

6th & 7th rnds: Repeat 5th rnd.

8th rnd:   * Tr in next lp, (make p, tr in same lp) 6 times. Repeat from * around.

9, 10,

11 & 12:  Repeat 8th rnd.

13th rnd:  * Dtr in next lp, (make p, dtr in same lp) 7 times. Repeat from * around.

14th rnd:  Repeat 13th rnd.

15th rnd:  Repeat 13th rnd, sl st in top of 1st dtr. Break off.

If you want to “frost” your tree, you can either start the tip with white and switch to green for the rest of the body, or when you add it later, you can make a cap to fit over the green tip. To add white, start on the top branch, and tie white on to first sl st, then, depending on how much “snow” you want, you can sc or dc on the edges.  Make the same “p” as you crochet, so you don’t lose the points of the branches. Decorate with a strand of lights and mini decorations. You can also drizzle glue on your branches and sprinkle with glitter if you like a shiny tree.

Key

 Sc = single crochet

Dc = double crochet

Sl st = slip stitch

Hdc = half double crochet

Tr = triple crochet

Dtr = double triple crochet

Lp = loop

Yo = yarn over

Note:  to make a double triple crochet, yo 3 times, insert hook in lp and draw lp through, (yo and draw through 2 lps on hook) 4 times.
